Community Benefit GrantsIn 2005 the Management Committee recognised that there were a large number of smaller charities, school P & C's, sporting groups and other community service organisations that didn't receive any Government funding and therefore the decision was made to set up a Community Benefits Grant Scheme to provide some financial assistance. In many cases the needs of these community organisations were minimal and so the guidelines were set offering grants from $250 up to $4,000 to organisations located in the 4121, 4122, 4113 and 4109 post code areas. Applications were also considered for organisation located outside that post code area that provided services within the preferred area. As a general guideline, funding is provided for equipment and specific resources. Funding is not provided for wages, payment for services rendered or recurrent funding costs. Since its inception in 2005, up until June 2011, $404,130 has been distributed to 203 community organisations. The organisations that benefited from the scheme included sporting clubs, environmental groups, historical associations, school P & C associations, age care services and many more too numerous to mention. Applications are called in February and it is advertised in the Public Notices of the Quest Newspapers and in the Southside Community News. Applications close in mid April.
